Global peace only can be derived through dialogue: PU VC

LAHORE: (Wednesday, April 22, 2026): Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ali said that promoting dialogue is an urgent necessity for establishing peace in the world. He expressed these views while addressing a ceremony titled “Peace for Humanity,” organized by the Department of Political Science here on Wednesday. On this occasion, senior analyst Salman Abid, Chairman Department of Political Science Prof Dr Rana Ijaz Ahmad, faculty members and students were present. In his address, PU VC Prof Dr Muhammad Ali stated that whatever happened between the US and Iran should not have occurred. He said that attacks were carried out on water reservoirs in Lebanon and on hospitals and schools in Tehran, where neither any principle was followed nor ethical considerations observed. He added that the use of explosives is contributing to global warming, climate change, and water-related issues. He said that the closure of the Strait of Hormuz causes difficulties for people living in surrounding areas. He remarked that Israel has been committing oppression against Palestine for many years. Addressing students of political science, he urged them to reflect on how Israel manages to achieve its objectives. He also said that Pakistan has played a significant role in extending the ceasefire and that after a peace agreement, Pakistan’s importance and stature will increase. He praised Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts in the current situation, calling them commendable. He emphasized that for a strong economy, Pakistan must make effective and proper use of its human and natural resources. Senior analyst Salman Abid said that the world is focusing more on defense systems rather than the development of human resources. He added that even in democracies, the use of power is increasing. He stated that the United States and Israel have created divisions in Middle Eastern politics. Prof Dr Rana Ijaz Ahmad said that Pakistan is working on the front lines to promote peace. He added that the Department of Political Science will continue to play its role in raising awareness about national and international affairs.
